In October 2023, Dance to You! performed at the Residence at St. Peters. The Residence is a senior congregate home and community that provides compassionate care, a safe environment, quality services, and enriching programs for seniors in River Edge, New Jersey.
By moving a couple of tables around and arranging a few chairs in rows, we were able to create a stage in their very own dining room! We even made performance programs, and handed them out to the seniors so they could truly feel that they were at a dance performance!
For the first segment of our program, we performed a variety of different solos. We performed ballet variations from The Talisman, The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, and Paquita, as well as a jazz and contemporary solo! For the second segment of our program, we performed musical theater duets to the greatest hits of ABBA including “Dancing Queen,” “Gimme Gimme," and “Lay All Your Love On Me." Finally, we performed a group number to ABBA’s “Voulez Vouz!" We were so energized by the seniors’ enthusiasm, and loved when they clapped and sang along!
Many of the seniors told us that our performance was the highlight of their month, and they later sent us a card to express their gratitude! Ms. Kathleen, one of the seniors at the Residence asked our founder Caitlin Liau for her autograph! In addition, Caitlin was so honored to be able to dance with Ms. Rosa, another senior at the Residence, who told Caitlin that this was one of the happiest days of her life!
